Queen Elizabeth II Wants Camilla to be Queen Consort, Confirms in Platinum Jubilee Message
In a surprise announcement on the night before the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, Queen Elizabeth II expressed her sincere wish to have her daughter-in-law Camilla become Queen Consort when her eldest son Prince Charles becomes King.
Her Majesty made this announcement during the official start of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
In a message addressed to the public and signed “Your Servant Elizabeth R,” the 95-year-old monarch renewed her pledge and thanked her late husband Prince Philip for being a partner willing to carry out the role of her consort.
The announcement put to rest any speculation that had beset the royal family for years and confirmed that Camilla will be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles ascends to the throne.
When Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005, palace representatives assured the public that she would not take on the title of Princess of Wales out of respect for the late Princess Diana.
It was also promised that Camilla would become Charles' princess consort, not queen.

However, the recent announcement confirms a change of plan due to natural progression as Camilla successfully carried out royal duties and grew closer to the family over the past 17 years.
Camilla's entrance into the royal family was a difficult time for both Prince William and Prince Harry after the death of their mother, Princess Diana.
It is claimed that both princes were against Prince Charles' attempt to make Camilla the Queen Consort.
However, sources now say that William is supportive of the Queen's move.
While he was not part of the decision-making process, he is respectful of the logic of his grandmother's decision.
Sources say that while there was not an easy relationship at first, the second in line to the throne is pragmatic about Camilla's role in his father's life and now the future of the monarchy.
The Duke of Cambridge is supportive of his stepmother's new title, according to a well-placed Palace source.
Although William was not part of the final decision-making process, he would have discussed the issue with his father and effectively given his blessing.
While there were huge family rows in the early stages of Charles and Camilla's marriage, William sees that Camilla has made his father happy and has come to terms with it.
His relationship with the Prince of Wales is better than ever, and he respects his grandmother and her judgement more than anything.
Insiders say that William still believes he has a role to champion his late mother's legacy and will never shy away from speaking up about Princess Diana, her achievements, or the way she was treated by the royal family and the media.
Despite not being particularly close to his stepmother, they get on perfectly well and are now quite the blended family.
The announcement has quelled any speculation about Camilla's official title after her husband's coronation.
She will be known as Queen Consort, and not Princess Consort as previously thought.
The change of plan has not been the result of a plot to create Queen Camilla, but rather a natural progression as she successfully carried out royal duties and grew closer to the family over the past 17 years.
The Queen's message also expressed her sincere wish that the public will give the same support to Prince Charles and Camilla that they have given to her.
It is clear that the Queen has full confidence in her son and daughter-in-law to continue the legacy of the monarchy.
With this announcement, the royal family can move forward with certainty and stability, knowing that the succession plan has been confirmed for generations to come.
