Prince William and Kate Take on More Senior Role in Monarchy

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been hailed as the future of the British monarchy, as they prepare to take the helm from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles.

According to a royal historian, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have stepped up to their roles, leaving the monarchy in good hands.

As they accept the responsibility that comes with their position, the couple has increased their public profile and taken on more royal responsibilities.

The royal historian notes that this is partly due to Megxit and the Queen's old age, as well as an improvement in their confidence.

Recently, the couple has been at the forefront of many royal events, earning them the nickname “the new Fab Four” alongside Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Reports suggest that Prince Charles may be redistributing jobs throughout the family as he looks to slim down the monarchy.

Royal historian Dr Anna Whitelock says that the couple is moving into a more senior position, accepting the role and responsibility that they have.

She notes that they have been doing more and that this is a confidence thing, but also because they understand their future role.

Former Chief Royal Photographer of the Daily Mirror, Kent Gavin, believes that Princess Diana would have been friends with Meghan Markle and that she would have tried to guide and help her through.

He adds that the royal family is in good hands with William and Kate, but questions whether the institution will last another 100 years with the way it's set up now and the way people are living.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Prince William and Kate were praised for their efforts in boosting community spirits.

They continued to maintain a full schedule of online engagements and undertook a three-day tour of the country in December to thank frontline workers and emergency services.

Kate also received praise for her Hold Still project, which encouraged members of the public to submit their photography of lockdown life.

The competition received over 33,000 submissions, with the top 100 images selected being displayed on murals and billboards across the UK.

Since returning to in-person public duties, the couple has carried out a number of high-profile engagements, including a recent visit to Northern Ireland and a trip to RAF Bryas Norton.

Earlier this year, Kate launched her Royal Foundation for Early Childhood Centre, which will continue to champion her work in mental health and children's development.

Prince William has also launched the Earthshot Prize, an ambitious environmental award that offers £1 million to five winners for them to continue with their innovative solutions in tackling the climate crisis.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will join a number of world-renowned celebrities for the awards ceremony on Sunday.
