Prince William’s Climate Event in New York May Fuel Family Tensions, Royal Expert Claims

's upcoming climate event in New York may be fanning the flames of family tensions within the royal firm, according to royal expert Daniela Elzer.

The Duke of Cambridge is set to attend the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 21, alongside billionaire Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York.

Elzer believes that 's solo PR landgrab seems to mirror some of the Sussex's own plans in the United States, which could lead to tensions reaching a boiling point.

Elzer notes that Prince William's keynote speeches about the environment, his association with American philanthropic powerhouses, and his appearance at the U.N. all seem to be part of the turf that Harry and Meghan have been trying, albeit not very successfully, to carve out as their own.

Meanwhile, Meghan and are planning a return to the UK next month, which could further complicate matters.

The timing of Prince William's climate event, combined with the mystery surrounding 's new book, could cause tensions to reach boiling point.

Elzer suggests that William's attempts to flaunt his statesman credentials may only inflame family tensions further.

This all feels like William not so much treading on his younger brother's toes but enthusiastically clogged dancing over Harry's bare feet.

There has also been speculation that Prince William and may attend the second Earthshot Awards in Boston in November, which could involve a wider tour of the U.S.

This solo trip by the Duke of Cambridge will be the first time he has been in the United States since Meghan and Prince Harry set up their base in California in 2020.

The last time Prince William was in the country was a three-day visit with Kate, Duchess of Cambridge in 2014.

Royal commenter Natalie O'Leary suggests that it's highly likely the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will bring a production crew with them to Germany and England in the coming weeks, as they have no restrictions from the Royal Family this time around.

It's probable that Harry and Meghan will have a camera crew alongside them, and it's expected to be very different from the four-day Jubilee festivities, where cameras were reportedly banned from covering Prince Harry and Meghan's visit during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.

Next month, though, is expected to be very different, with no such rules being forced upon the Sussexes.

If you'll remember all the way back to April, cameras did join the couple for the Invictus Games at The Hague, Netherlands.

Prince William's solo trip to the U.S. may cause tensions to rise, but it's unclear how much time he will be spending in the country.

The summit is set to take place on September 21, and there has been no official announcement regarding the duration of his stay.

will give the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the One Young World Summit, an event that brings together young leaders from over 190 countries.

Both Harry and Meghan will also meet a group of delegates who are working on gender equality.

In conclusion, Prince William's climate event in New York may fuel family tensions, but the exact extent of these tensions remains to be seen.

The upcoming visits by both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are sure to be closely watched by royal watchers and fans alike.
