The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were watching the annual RAF flyover from one of the large windows of the Major General's office at Horse Guards Parade, having not joined other senior royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the start of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The 96-year-old monarch, after careful consideration, limited the balcony appearance to working members of the royal family who still carry out public duties.

This meant that and , who quit as working royals nearly two years ago in 2020, made a low-key return to public life in the UK by watching the flyover from the office window.

In one picture, Prince Harry can be seen putting his fingers to his lips to tell Lena Tindall, the youngest daughter of Zara and Mike Tindall, to be quiet during the ceremony.

This was the first joint public appearance of Prince Harry and with the royal family since they quit as working royals nearly two years ago in 2020.

Their two young children, Uchi and , have joined them on the trip to the UK, meaning the Queen will be able to meet her great-grandson, who turns one on Saturday.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were spotted at Trooping the Colour, the first event of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and their first royal event since they quit as working members of the firm.

The couple were seen playfully telling some royal children, including Savannah and Isla Phillips and Mia and Lena Tindall, to be quiet as they watched the parade at Horse Guards Parade.

Meghan looked elegant in a navy dress and a large hat as 's husband Eduardo Moppellimozzi looked on.

Meanwhile, other images showed both Harry and Meghan chatting to the Queen's cousin, the Duke of Kent.

However, there was no appearance from Meghan or Harry on the Buckingham Palace balcony later for the RAF flypast after the Queen decided only working royals should appear.

A palace spokesman previously said, after careful consideration, the Queen has decided this year's traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday June 2 will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the royal family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the Queen.

Earlier today, cheers went up from thousands of spectators on the Mall as they caught sight of , and with proud parent Kate and the Duchess of Cornwall in a carriage.

The traditional carriage procession left Buckingham Palace ahead of Trooping the Colour, also known as the Birthday Parade, the start of four days of festivities honouring the Queen.

The young Cambridge's and the Duchess's carriage, known as a barouche, was followed by another carrying the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn.

Mike Tindall was reportedly furious with Prince Harry's actions towards his daughter Lena Tindall during Trooping the Colour.
