Plant a Tree for Jubilee: Queen Elizabeth Thanks Public for Support of Green Canopy Initiative

Queen Elizabeth II has expressed her sincere gratitude to the public for their support of the Green Canopy Initiative, which was launched to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee.

The initiative, also known as QGC, encouraged people all around the UK to plant trees in honor of the monarch's 70th year on the throne.

During the first season of the campaign, which began last year, a staggering one million trees were planted across the country.

The Queen herself planted one of the first trees alongside her son and heir Prince Charles in Windsor, and also participated in a ceremony with children during her stay at Balmoral Castle in Scotland last October.

Prince William and Kate also took part in a tree planting ceremony during their recent trip to the Caribbean, as well as during their March 1 visit to Wales.

The Queen's message and the planting ceremony mark the halfway point for the initiative, which spans two official tree planting seasons.

Tree planting will resume in October 2022 until the end of the Jubilee year.

The next phase of the initiative will focus on conservation, with the unveiling of 70 ancient woodlands and 70 ancient trees, which are being called the crown jewels of the British countryside.

In a special message issued from Windsor Castle, the Queen expressed her deep appreciation for people's efforts thus far, saying, “As the planting season draws to a close, I send my sincere thanks to everyone across the country who has planted a tree to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.”

She added, “I am deeply touched that so many community groups, schools, families and individuals have made their own unique contribution to the Green Canopy Initiative.

I hope your Jubilee trees flourish and grow for many years to come, for future generations to enjoy.”

The Queen's message was shared on Twitter, and royal fans responded with delight over the impressive contribution made by the public thus far.

One fan wrote, “Lovely message and wow over a million trees!

What a wonderful contribution to the world!”

Another added, “An extraordinary living legacy!

So happy to have contributed!

Much love to Her Majesty!”

The personal message coincided with a royal tree planting ceremony conducted by the Queen's daughter-in-law Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who planted an elm tree in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

Young students from Grange Park Primary School in Telford, Shropshire were also present during the ceremony and were presented with commemorative Jubilee coins from the Royal Mint to mark the successful completion of their QGC RFS Junior Forrester Awards.

Prince Charles also participated in the initiative during his recent visit to Ireland, planting a tree in the gardens of Hillsborough Castle.

Despite wearing his usual attire of a blazer and brogues, the heir to the throne got stuck in and grasped a shovel to dig a small hole for the sapling.

The Green Canopy Initiative is a wonderful way to honor Queen Elizabeth's remarkable reign and to contribute to the environment.
