Prince Philip Discharged From Hospital And Reunited With Queen Elizabeth

After a month-long stay at King Edward VII Hospital, Prince Philip was discharged on Tuesday morning and returned to Windsor Castle where he had spent lockdown with the Queen.

The Duke of Edinburgh was seen waving as he left the hospital in a BMW.

He wore a plain white shirt under a yellow v-neck jumper and appeared to be in high spirits.

Upon returning home, Prince Philip released a statement thanking the medical staff for their hard work caring for him during his one month hospital stay.

The statement from Buckingham Palace said that he had been discharged following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition.

It continued, “His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him at both King Edward VII Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital and everyone who has sent him their good wishes.”

The 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was initially taken by car to King Edward VII Hospital in central London on February 16 after falling unwell.

The Palace said this was a precautionary measure but two weeks later he was moved to St Bartholomew's Hospital by ambulance.

He underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition on March 3 before returning to King Edward VII a few days later to recuperate.

During his stay in hospital, Prince Philip was visited by several members of the royal family including his son who made a 200-mile round trip from his home in Gloucestershire and stayed for just 30 minutes.

His wife, , had not been able to visit him due to coronavirus restrictions but paid a touching tribute in her Commonwealth Day message on March 7 when she displayed a brooch she wore on her honeymoon.

Since the first lockdown began last month, the Queen and Prince Philip have been holed up in Windsor Castle with a selective number of staff which was dubbed HM Bubble.

The Duke, who is turning 100 in June, retired from royal duty in 2017 when he spent most of his time at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate.

The Queen had been spending an increasing amount of time with him there before they permanently moved to Windsor Castle when the pandemic unfolded.

This allowed them to spend quiet time together, closer than they had been for years, in their Windsor Bubble.

According to the Mirror, one senior Palace source said the Duke's relationship with Her Majesty is timeless.

They have seen the country and indeed their own family go through many trials and tribulations in their 73-year marriage and have always faced them together.

Their union has been a fantastic partnership, one managed with respect and complete admiration for one another.

Over the past 11 months, they have probably spent more time together than they have in many previous years combined and they have rather enjoyed it.

During their marriage, Prince Philip has been the rock that anchors his wife in times of turmoil.

He once told a close friend that his job, first, second and last, was never to let his wife down.

It is a vow he has faithfully kept.

Although Charles visited him at the King Edward VII Hospital, visitors were only allowed into clinical areas of St Bartholomew's for very limited reasons, such as seeing a patient who was at the end of their life, so the Queen was unable to visit.

Now the reunited royal couple can continue their happy chapter of a love story as enduring as any fairy tale and arguably the greatest royal romance in history.

Together they have shouldered the burden of public life with love and good humour.

And in January they both were given their Covid jabs at Buckingham Palace.
