Queen Elizabeth Heartbroken Over Harry and Meghan’s Oprah Interview

The royal family is in crisis following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on Sunday, March 7 in the US and Monday in the UK.

The interview has plunged the monarchy into its worst crisis since the death of Princess Diana in 1997.

Queen Elizabeth, who has never given a formal media interview, is said to be privately devastated by the revelations and the potential damage to the reputation of the royal family.

Royal author Katie Nicholl wrote for Vanity Fair on Tuesday that the Queen is allegedly heartbroken over the shocking revelations and is deeply concerned for Prince Philip, who remains in the hospital recovering from a heart procedure.

Nicholl also shared that Harry's father, Prince Charles, was allegedly in a state of despair after his younger son emailed him to justify why he and Meghan have done the interview.

During the interview, Harry revealed that the royal family cut him off financially at the start of 2020 after announcing plans to step back from his roles.

He was able to afford security for his family because of the money his late mother, Princess Diana, left behind.

He also said that his relationship with Charles had been impacted and noted that Charles had stopped taking his phone calls.

“There is a lot to work through there,” Harry said about his relationship with his father.

“I feel really let down.

He's been through something similar.

He knows what pain feels like and Archie is his grandson.

I will always love him, but there is a lot of hurt that has happened.”

Harry also acknowledged that he does not have a close relationship presently with his brother, Prince William, who is heir to the throne after Charles.

He disputed rumours that he intentionally blindsided the Queen with his decision to split.

He suspected the rumours came from the institution.

“I've never blindsided my grandmother,” Harry said.

“I have too much respect for her.”

Meanwhile, Meghan described feeling so isolated and miserable inside the royal family.

When she asked for mental health assistance from the palace's human resources staff, she was told they couldn't help because she wasn't a paid employee.

Other claims centred around race, with the couple both claiming that concerns and comments had been made within the family over their son's skin colour.

Winfrey later confirmed that the Queen and Prince Philip were not part of those conversations.

Fifty-six hours after the interview ended, Buckingham Palace finally issued a 61-word, three-paragraph statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth in response to the couple's claim from the interview.

They said, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

The interview has caused a media frenzy and has sparked a debate about the future of the monarchy.
