Why Prince Harry may not return to UK for Princess Diana’s statue unveiling

According to a royal expert, Prince Harry's return to the UK for the unveiling of his mother's statue is in jeopardy because his wife Meghan Markle is due to give birth in the next few weeks.

The Duke and his brother, Prince William, were expected to attend the unveiling ceremony of a new statue dedicated to Princess Diana in July. However, Harry and Meghan are expecting their second child in the coming weeks.

According to the journalist, the Duke of Sussex, who is currently based in Los Angeles, was looking forward to reuniting with his older brother William at the unveiling of their late mother Diana's statue.

Lady Di's statue will be unveiled next month, on the 60th birthday. Since 2017, Prince William and Harry have been collaborating on the statue.

The Mirror's royal editor Russell Myers told stand-in host Cat Deeley on ITV's Lorraine this morning that Harry might miss the event.

He said: “The things I'm being told is they still really want to be there, both of them. Certainly, William and Kate will be there.

“But whether Harry can fly over there because the baby is imminently due this summer… it will certainly be in the next couple of weeks.”

Russell Myers said: “It's been a long time in the making. It's a big deal because the boys, William and Harry, have been working on this statue for a long time.”

“It's been talked about for so many months now, their deteriorating relationship and the issue that obviously, Harry is expecting a second child, a baby girl on the way.”

“Whether they will attend together, whether they want to make separate speeches – the things I am being told is that they want to be there, both of them.”
