The Queen's only niece remained close to her aunt and Prince Philip following her mother's death in 2002.

Lady Sarah Chateau arrived at the Westminster Hall service with her 23-year-old son Arthur Chateau.

She is sure to be devastated by the loss of her aunt, with whom she had a very close relationship.

The 58-year-old has not been seen since word of the monarch's death broke on Thursday, September 8, and has yet to issue a statement.

For Wednesday's event, Lady Sarah Chateau was joined by other members of the royal family, including Princess Anne, , , Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and their respective husbands, Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, as well as Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn.

The Queen consort, King Charles II, , Sir Tim Lawrence, , and the Earl and Countess of Wessex were all present.

Her late Majesty's coffin was kept in the famous bow room of her official London residence for one night before the procession to Westminster Hall the next day.

A royal insider described Lady Sarah, who is married to Daniel Chateau, as having a sense of loyalty, fun, duty, and the ridiculous, with the Queen.

The Queen adores Lady Sarah and seeks her out as frequently as she can.

They are completely at ease in each other's presence, and when they're together, there's a lot of laughter.

They share a feeling of devotion, joy, obligation, and the absurd.

Lady Sarah Chateau was born in 1964, the last royal baby born at a palace rather than a hospital, within weeks of cousins Prince Edward, Lady Helen Windsor and James Ogilvy.

The Queen has been described as a surrogate mother to the siblings and was particularly close to Lady Sarah, who is understood to remind her Majesty of her late sister.

Sarah tragically lost her mother, Princess Margaret, in February 2002 when she was just 38 years old.

The Queen only allowed her niece to accompany her to her favourite hideaway, Craigowan Lodge, in Aberdeenshire.

When the Queen lost her beloved husband Prince Philip in April 2021, she spent quiet time grieving at her Scottish home of Balmoral, where close family came to visit her.

Lady Sarah was one of those family members who stayed with her at this time.

Sarah was also one of the 30 people invited to Philip's funeral held during the pandemic, as well as her brother, David Armstrong Jones.

It was known that the Queen deeply missed her sister Margaret, and we imagine her Majesty and Sarah remembering her together.

When it comes to her personal life, Lady Sarah is notoriously discreet.

She became well-known after being featured in the BBC documentary, Elizabeth at 90, a family tribute, in which her humble demeanour and genuine love for the Queen won over viewers.

But she and her family, husband Daniel Chateau, and their boys Samuel and Arthur, prefer to live quietly out of the public eye.

Lady Sarah remains rather close to the senior royals.

On display in the BBC programme was Lady Sarah's obvious reverence and affection for the Queen, feelings that appear to be mutual.

Lady Sarah is said to be particularly close to her cousin King Charles III.

She was the godmother of and was the chief bridesmaid during Charles's wedding to .

She was also chosen to be the godmother to Princess Louise, the daughter of Prince Edward, and Princess Rose, the daughter of the Duke of Gloucester.

Lady Sarah and her older brother David lived in Kensington Palace until their parents divorced when she was 13 years old.

As a young woman, she attended the Hampshire Boarding School Beddales, where she developed her artistic interests and abilities.

Following her graduation, she worked as a wardrobe assistant on Heat and Dust, where she met her husband Daniel Chateau, who had a small role in the film.

The couple married in a low-key service at St Stephen's Walbrook Church in July 1994, with Lady Sarah wearing a Jasper Conran gown and the Snowden floral tiara.

They now live in Kensington.

As Lady Sarah grieves for her aunt, she is likely being supported by her husband, sons and brother David at this sad time.
