BAFTA Awards Honors Queen Elizabeth II with Heartfelt Tribute

The BAFTA Awards ceremony was held at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London, where many famous faces attended to celebrate the television and film industry.

The event showcased some of the best and brightest in the field, including Dame Helen Mirren, who delivered a beautiful speech dedicated to II, who passed away in September of 2022.

Presenting the tribute, Helen took to the stage and began, “The BAFTA's relationship with Her Majesty was a very long-standing one, and BAFTA would not be what it is today without her loyal support.”

She continued, “She supported over 50 cultural organizations, and in 2013, it was her turn to be honored with a BAFTA in recognition of the Queen's outstanding patronage of the film and television industries.”

Cinema, at its best, does what Her Majesty did effortlessly, bring us together, and unite us in a story.

During the clip that was being played to support Helen's speech, a voice clip of Her Majesty was played where she said, “Through the creative genius of artists, whether they be writers, actors, film-makers, dancers, or musicians, we can see both a range of our cultures and the elements of our shared humanity.”

Helen concluded her speech, “Your Majesty, you are our nation's leading star.

On behalf of BAFTA, thank you for all you've done for our film and television industry.”

Before moving on to the next award, Richard added, “Yes, thank you, Your Majesty, for everything.”

As the camera panned to the audience, William and Kate applauded the speech, looking emotional at her kind words.

However, some people viewed Helen's speech as a slight dig at Harry and Meghan.

After leaving the UK to return to her birthplace, Meghan doesn't appear to have received a warm welcome in her country.

Last year, Piers Morgan's wife Celia Walden claimed that made the crucial misstep of forgetting that the whole of the US loves the Queen.

Novelist Walden, speaking to Dan Wooten from a home in LA said, “I thought maybe people would be protective of her out here, but not at all.

She's just a figure of fun and ridicule.

And the crucial misstep she made is forgetting that the whole of the US loves the Queen.

So anyone who's deemed to have affronted the Queen or behaved badly in that regard, is just not going to go down well at all.”

The award-winning author referenced the joke Rebel Wilson made about the infamous Oprah interview at this year's BAFTA Awards.

She said, “How fascinating it was that Rebel made that joke.

These are their people, so normally one would expect a sharp intake of breath, maybe even booing.

But there was unanimous laughter because they're now officially figures of ridicule.

I think that will be most upsetting to her because this is the last thing they wanted.”

Meanwhile, US TV host, Meghan Kelly, has branded and an international laughingstock who have only themselves to blame.

Her comments come as the Sussexes denied rumors they were planning to sue South Park over the satirical show's portrayal of the couple.

Asked if Meghan and Harry would sue the show, Kelly said South Park wasn't to blame for less than complimentary opinions of the couple.
