Prince William Reveals Inspiration From Princess Diana To Tackle Homelessness
Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, has celebrated his 40th birthday by appearing in a special edition of The Big Issue magazine.
In an exclusive piece for the magazine, the Duke explained why he wants to raise awareness of homelessness issues.
He revealed how his mother, Princess Diana, inspired him to shine a light on the ignored and misunderstood problem of homelessness, which he first encountered at the age of 11 during a visit to a homeless shelter with his mother.
The magazine, sold by people in order to lift themselves out of poverty, features an interview between William and David Martin, a Big Issue vendor he joined to sell the magazine on the streets of London earlier this month.
Together, they sold 32 copies of the publication on Rochester Row, close to Victoria in London.
During the day, the Duke and Martin also visited The Passage, a nearby homelessness charity that supports people who are street homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The Duke became a patron of The Passage in 2019, and it was to this charity that Princess Diana brought her young sons to give them an insight into the challenges faced by people on the margins.
In his article, William wrote that he refused to believe that homelessness is an irrevocable fact of life.
It is an issue that can be solved, but that requires a continued focus and comprehensive support network.
He added that he has always believed in using his platform to help tell those stories and to bring attention and action to those who are struggling.
The Duke said he wants to fix homelessness, and that it can be done if everyone works together.
He added that more support at the sharp end is needed, and that he would like to build something more permanent, but fix all the other issues as well.
His aim is to try and tackle homelessness and give the next generation less chance of being homeless.
William also plans to involve his children in his work, much as Princess Diana had done with him and Prince Harry in the 1990s.
He hopes to bring Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis to see the fantastic organisations doing inspiring work to support those most in need.
The Duke's appearance on the front cover of the magazine has sent royal fans into a frenzy.
Many have praised his compassion and charitable works.
One fan wrote that it was a wonderful idea, while another said that it certainly brought awareness to what The Big Issue is and who it benefits.
A third fan added that the public has seen a compassionate ordinary guy with a royal title, and that Prince William shines.
