Queen Elizabeth II Misses Royal Ascot for the First Time in 70-Year Reign

For the first time in her 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth II missed the entire Royal Ascot event due to ongoing mobility issues.

Her Majesty is known to be a lover of horse racing and traditionally attends all five days of the annual spectacle.

However, this year, the 96-year-old monarch was unable to attend any of the days due to her episodic mobility issues.

Royal Commentator Daniela Elsa highlighted how the Queen's absence was notable and unprecedented.

She quoted a book by the Queen's dresser and confidante Angela Kelly, which said that only in extreme circumstances would Her Majesty not attend the equestrian event.

Elsa further explained that the Queen usually carries out engagements in Scotland for Holyrood Week before her summer break at Balmoral.

Elsa's claims come as the Queen is experiencing episodic mobility issues, and concerns for her health have been highlighted since she spent a night in the hospital last October.

In lieu of her absence, the Sovereign sent a video message and was represented by her son and heir, Prince Charles.

On Monday, she missed the service of the Order of the Garter at St George's Chapel in Windsor but was at the investiture in Windsor Castle Throne Room held a few hours prior.

Earlier this year, the Queen was once again represented by her son in March when she missed the Commonwealth Day service.

Two months later, Prince Charles delivered the Queen's speech during the state opening of Parliament.

The Queen could not attend the evening reception at COP26 in Glasgow last November due to mobility issues, and similarly, she missed the National Service of Remembrance at the Senator a few days later due to a sprained back.

The Queen did not step out on three occasions during the extended Platinum Jubilee Bank holiday earlier this month.

Her Majesty was last seen in public on June 5, when she was accompanied on the balcony of Buckingham Palace by her three heirs, Prince George, Prince William, and Prince Charles, the Duchesses of Cornwall and Cambridge, and Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The Palace has been seen switching out her cars earlier this year to cater to her mobility problems, and she has been seen using a walking stick to aid her during public appearances.

The Queen's absence at the Royal Ascot event follows the news that she will be taking a rest after the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

However, Prince Charles continues to take on an increasingly central role, proving that the show can go on without the Queen, according to royal experts.

Racegoers at the Royal Ascot were no doubt disappointed by the Queen's absence at the event.

Still, they were treated to the sight of other members of the Royal Family traveling in the traditional carriage procession.

Despite the extreme weather conditions, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees, the event was still a success.
